The cottage is located less than 10 minutes from Westport, one of the most picturesque villages in all of Ontario. Area Attractions Foley Mountain Conservation Area High atop a granite ridge overlooking the Upper Rideau Lake and the village of Westport, you will find Foley Mountain Conservation Area. Visitors can enjoy 10 kilometers of maintained hiking trails throughout the park. A natural sandy beach makes a wonderful rest stop for boaters and hikers alike. The Interpretive Centre offers educational displays and local tourist information, while Spy Rock lookout is famous for its spectacular view of the village of Westport and the surrounding area. Fort Henry is both a museum and a spectacular historic site. A reproduction of 19th century military life, the site offers guided tours, scenic views, and musical performances from a military band and military and marching demonstrations by the Fort Henry Guard. Historic Jones Falls Lock Station Offers Boat Cruises through the Thousand Islands, including a stop at Boldt Castle. Worth the 40 min. drive to Gananoque! Murphy’s Point Provincial Park Located on the Big Rideau Lake, this park offers tours of a restored mica mine, sawmill ruins and pioneer homesteads in addition to hiking trails, beaches and picnic areas. Thousand Islands Charity Casino Boat Rentals Westport Village Rental Located in the village of Westport, this is the closest rental facility to the cottage. If you rent a boat here, you will need to drive it through the Narrows Locks to get back to the cottage [on Upper Rideau Lake]. It’s an easy and enjoyable trip. Click here to see some of Kingston’s Attractions Annual Events An annual sale and exhibition held during the 4th weekend of August at the Westport Community Centre, the Festival has become one of the most popular of its kind in Eastern Ontario. It features original art by well-known as well as new artists from throughout Ontario. All work has been juried before acceptance in order to maintain a high quality at the exhibition. The artists are present during the show and many visitors find that meeting them is one of the most rewarding parts of the event. Fall Colours Studio Tour Several artists, at ten locations in and around the village of Westport, open their studio doors to the public for the free, self-guided tour, now in it's fourteenth year. Studios are open on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Thanksgiving Weekend from 10 until six. Many of the artists demonstrate their techniques while working on new pieces at their studios. The majority of the works on display are offered for sale - the perfect opportunity to get a jump on your Christmas shopping! The Westport Antique Show and Sale Now in its 14th year, this prestigious show attracts over 50 antique dealers from throughout Eastern Ontario. Early Canadian pine, pottery, European treasures, and unique collectibles are of interest to the avid collector and interior designer looking for the “wow” factor! The quality dealers bring the best of their collections to this established and popular Show and Sale, held the first weekend in June.
