Fishing Info

The Rideau Lakes region is known for its great fishing.  Like anywhere else, the key is to use the right gear for the time of year and the type of fish you’re hoping to catch.  Norris’ Bait Shop, just down the road from the cottage, not only has a wide selection of bait and tackle, but is also a great source of information on who’s catching what, and where.

Here’s a general overview of what we have found over the past few years:

This lake has mostly Walleye, Bass, Perch, & Pike. Early in the season (May and June) you’re practically guaranteed a good catch.

Past the 3rd week of June, many species tend to move out of the shallow waters.  If you want good fishing later in the season (mid-summer), we would suggest you either fish deep (depth maps provided), or fish for bass which are generally plentiful throughout the season.

This lake is on the Rideau Canal System, so it’s also fun to take your boat through the locks over to Newboro Lake for Pike or to The Big Rideau for Lake Trout.  We once caught 14 Pike in an hour at Newboro Lake.
